P-1: THUMBNAILS
Posted in art, Digital Design Class Exercises, stencils, artwork on February 10, 2010 by sensemanifoldWhat is important here is PROCESS (right, Professor?)… These look like ess now, but any one of these could look amazing with a little TLC (that’s tender loving care… not The Learning Channel… although that might help too…)
CE-6: Type Manipulation
Posted in Digital Design Class Exercises on February 1, 2010 by sensemanifoldThe assignment was to use any sans serif typeface and create 20 modifications using the given anchor points. I chose to start with Helvetica font. I added and subtracted a few for some of these shapes, and the best one was actually a result of the “blob” tool… so technically I didn’t add many anchor points to make it. This was the hardest project I have ever done in my life. [that's sarcasm] But it was the funnest project I have ever done in my life. [nah... that's actually sarcasm too... but it was pretty fun... I did enjoy it though... and I learned a couple of things... that's not sarcasm.]
CE-5 PROJECT 1 (PREP)
Posted in art, Digital Design Class Exercises on January 27, 2010 by sensemanifoldThe assignment was to create an environmental logo, sketching several thumbnails by hand, then creating at least one design using illustrator based one of the thumbnails.
The first thumbnail was my first idea, a tree with the roots visible in the earth, but I decided that was too much like the LRG logo or the Timberland logo, so I moved on.
The second and third thumbnails are my second thought, drawn with a marker, and a ballpoint pen.
After scanning these images, I decided to trace the ballpoint pen version using the pen and pencil tool in Adobe Illustrator, so that I could partially preserve the hand-drawn feel of the composition, but still clean up the lines and shapes a bit. The fourth thumbnail is the result of that, after adding a type treatment.
